4 Days Gorilla Tour with Mountain Hike

Overview

With the Gorilla tracking adventure at the forefront of your safari, you can hike one of the three mountains and experience the scenic beauty from the elevations in Mgahinga National park. Among the three mountain trails, Mt Muhavura 4127m, Mt Gahinga 3474m and Mt Sabyinyo 3669m elevations and depending on the time and energy you can opt for one of the trails. Mt Muhavura borders Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda and you can reach that pivot point at the top.

Hiking is cool early morning and relatively easy climb and is suitable for most persons and children. The volcanoes trekking combined with gorilla tracking is really a awesome experience which is one of the most exciting adventure activities in the pearl of Africa.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kisoro Town, South-western Uganda
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking
Day 3: Mountain Hike either Muhavura, Gahinga or Sabyinyo
Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kisoro South-western Uganda

After an early morning breakfast, safari guide will pick you up and you embark on your drive to the magnificent Uganda’s south western countryside as you travel through tropical bamboo forests and undulating landscapes to keep your eyes busy. While on this 9-10 hours drive, expect a few stop-overs; for picture-taking at Equator and lunch-break in the beautiful town of Mbarara.  You will arrive in the evening just in time to check in at your hotel “Travellers Inn/Gorilla safari lodge for dinner and night stay.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking

This morning, wake up for early breakfast at your lodge then pull out your trekking gear and be transferred to the briefing point by your safari guide. At the briefing / starting point, you get assigned to and led by an experienced gorilla-trekking guide as you trek deep into the mountain gorilla rain forests jungle on the slopes of the volcanoes as you search for a family of mountain gorillas. This trekking experience lasts between 3 hours and 8 hours, depending on how far the Mountain Gorillas have moved with their family. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the proud home to an approximation of half of the world’s population of the gentle mountain gorillas – the world’s most endangered giant ape. Along you will carry packed lunch and water and after the tracking you will be driven back to your hotel. However in case the trek is shorter you can optionally visit the Batwa cultural centre

Day 3: Trek of the Volcano

On this third day after your an early breakfast, prepare and leave for hiking of one of the volcanoes in Mgahinga park. There are three volcanoes to choose from: Mt. Gahinga 3374m, Mt. Muhavura 4127m, or Mt. Sabyinyo 3669m. All these volcanoes offer amazing scenery, immense biodiversity of fauna and flora, and great landscape views though most people hiking prefer to hike Mt. Muhavura – bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and is considered a nature lover’s paradise! You will carry lunch along with water and be dropped off at your lodge for dinner and night stay after the hike.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala

Have a morning breakfast at leisure, after which you depart the home of the Mountain Gorillas for Kampala through the scenic return journey from Kisoro district to Kampala City with stopover in Mbarara for Lunch. While on your return journey, you will not miss a stop-over Mpambiire drum village in Masaka for a chance to see Ugandan drum craftsmen performing the best of their work. Arrival in Kampala is in the early hours of the evening, and the tour ends with a drop off at your preferred drop-off point or at the Entebbe Airport (if your flight is for this evening).
